Power Options In XP

Here is a cool trick in Windows XP (may work with other operating system too). The power button on your computer can be used to do more than just power down. You can also set it to:
     a. Do Nothing (may be why some of your computers aren't shutting off)
     b. Ask Me What To Do (will give you all the options).
     c. Standby.
     d. Hybernate.
     e. Shutdown.

Here is how to set it:
     1. Choose Start \ Settings \ Control Panel \ Power Options.
     2. Choose the Advanced tab at the top.

     3. In the Power Options window - choose the drop down box to get the options.

     4. Choose which option you want.
     5. Choose Apply.
     6. Choose OK.
Now press the power button on your computer and watch what happens. I found the shutdown option easier and faster than using the mouse to turn off my computer.
