Silence Your Modem




Don't want to hear the racket from your dial-up modem every time you establish a connection? You can make your modem be silent when it is dialing up to the Internet. To do this:

Option #1

     1. Choose Start / Settings / Control Panel (in Classic Start Menu View) or choose Start /
         Control Panel (in Windows XP Start Menu View).
     2. Choose Phone and Modem Options.
     3. Choose the Modems tab.
     4. With your modem selected, choose Properties.
























     5. Choose the Modem tab.
     6. There will be a sliding lever under where it says speaker volume. Move the lever (left mouse
         click it and hold down the mouse button while you slide it, then let go) all the way to the left.



























     7. Choose OK.
     8. Choose Apply.
     9. Choose OK.

Option #2

     1. Choose Start / Settings / Control Panel / Network Connections (in Classic Start Menu View)
         or choose Start / Control Panel / Network Connections (in Windows XP Start Menu View).
     2. Right mouse click on the connection you use to dial up to the internet with.
     3. Choose properties.























     4. On the General tab, select Configure.


























     5. Remove the check mark from the box labeled Enable modem speaker.




















     6. Choose OK.
     7. Choose OK.
