When To Press F8
During Startup

When you press F8 at the right time, you'll be able to get into the start options menu for Windows XP. But sometimes it can be tricky to time when you press the F8 key, especially if you have only one operating system installed on the computer and don't get a boot menu. To make sure you can access the menu, put a blank floppy in your floppy drive and then start up the computer. When you get the error saying "Unknown System Disk", remove the floppy disk and press F8 twice. The first press of the F8 key is in response to the "press any key" request and the second one brings up the menu.
